The customer required a totally integrated system to test rocket steering motor systems. The integratred system must be configurable without any prior software knowledge and must be expandable to at least 250 channels. Due to the hazardous nature of the test application, the host computer needs to be quite some distance away from the data system.
KineticSystems developed a VXI-based data system for use to control hazardous test operations and to acquire data during the test.
The initial VXI-based system acquires 36 channels of data, which includes 10 bridge-type strain inputs at 20 kHz, 10 voltages at 20 kHz, 16 thermocouples at 100 Hz, and also includes a 2-channel function generator, 16 relay outputs and 16 digital inputs.
Due to the hazardous nature of the tests, the system needed to transmit data over a distance of at least 1,000 feet with an overall data transfer rate of 600 kbytes/s. The KineticSystems 2962/V160 Grand Interconnect can transmit data up to 2 kilometers (6,562 feet), and the overall system can easily meet the 600 kbyte/s data transfer rate requirement. The complete DAQ Director-based system was integrated at our factory.
